Becoming an Advocate

What is an Advocate?

Day For Saint Leo advocates share a passion for Saint Leo University’s mission and have an abiding interest in the university’s future success. On this one day each year, advocates are charged with sharing a personal plea explaining why they believe that it’s important to give to Saint Leo and that encourages their former classmates and friends to do the same. The key to success as an advocate is simple: Spread the word to as many people as you know. This is a day about giving, and all gifts, no matter how big or how small, go a long way toward helping Saint Leo succeed.

How do I become an advocate?

Step 1: Create a GiveCampus user account. Go to givecampus/sign_up and simply click on “sign up” in the top right of the page to create your login.

Step 2: Make a gift. Inspire others to give by making a gift to Saint Leo University first. Then consider offering matches and challenges to motivate your former classmates to give. Offering a match means that you commit to giving a number of dollars for each dollar—or donor—that the campaign receives up to a specified maximum gift amount. Offering a challenge involves making a gift only if the campaign receives a certain number of donors or dollars after the challenge is issued.

Step 3: Create and upload a personal plea. A personal plea is a short video that explains why you are excited about getting involved with the campaign and why others should support it, too. This can be as easy as making a short selfie video on your cell phone. When done recording, upload the video via the campaign advocates tab.

Step 4: Share the campaign using the built-in sharing buttons. This step is the most important. The key to success on a Day For Saint Leo is in spreading the word to as many people as you know. The more people who know about a Day for Saint Leo, the more gifts we are likely to receive. Use the built-in sharing buttons—located underneath the campaign video and on the advocates tab—to create a campaign link that is unique to you. Be sure to be log into your account when you share so that gifts will be tracked to your name. Otherwise, the gifts that your contacts make will be credited to the community advocates group.
