Alumni Association Board of Directors

The Saint Leo Alumni Board provides opportunities for enthusiastic alumni to become more engaged with the university and serve its needs.  The board supports the mission and strategic goals of the office of Alumni Engagement and Sustained Giving by leveraging networks and promoting engagement opportunities.

Members agree to serve one (1), three-year (3-year) term, with the option of applying to serve a second three-year (3-year) term.  Members will be required to travel a minimum of three (3) times per year to attend board meetings, usually to University Campus, in Saint Leo, Florida.  Members will have the option to participate, via video conference, for one meeting a year.  Meetings are typically held in July, November, and April. Members commit to serve on at least one board committee, which will be determined annually at the July meeting. Members will be expected to participate in conference calls, which will be determined on an “as needed” basis.

Each member must understand the importance of philanthropy and agrees to financially support the university annually, as well as be engaged and willing to provide overall support with engagement opportunities.

Members of the Alumni Board of Directors are expected to:

  • Foster and maintain links between the alumni community and Saint Leo University while promoting awareness of the alumni association
  • Enjoy the alumni experience and talk openly and positively about Saint Leo University to the alumni community
  • Engage with other alumni in their area, seeking feedback on their alumni experience and learning about their continued needs.
  • Serve as an ambassador of the university, promoting Saint Leo to the public and improving knowledge among alumni about today’s Saint Leo.
  • Be informed of and attend alumni programs and activities and encourage attendance and/or participation from fellow alumni.   
  • Identify, cultivate, and recruit alumni in coordination with the Office of Alumni Engagement & Sustained Giving to support areas such as student recruitment, mentoring, events, financial support, and more
  • Attend tri-annual meetings at the university and make an annual financial contribution to the university
  • Demonstrate good judgment; act in the university’s best interests
  • Exemplify a strong commitment to Saint Leo University and its mission.

Peter Crover ’72

President

Peter Crover currently serves in the role of president on the Alumni Association Board of Directors. Peter graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English literature. He was born and raised in New York and now resides in Houston, TX. His career has included leadership roles in sales, marketing, and product development for the home furnishings industry, taking him to many interesting spots around the world. As a husband and father of three, he feels that it is his great pleasure to be involved with the magic and spirit of his beloved Saint Leo.

 

Nieta Scott-Dunmore ’00

President-elect

Nieta Scott-Dunmore currently serves as president-elect of the Alumni Association Board of Directors. She is a retired senior Federal Service civilian. She served in many roles during her 43 years of service, including Department of Defense (DoD) organizational development and designer, resource and financial manager/comptroller, manpower analyst, strategic planner, and risk manager. Nieta is a university and college associate adjunct professor.

 

Steve Leary ’71

Treasurer

Steve Leary EA, ATA, ATP, CHBC, earned his bachelor’s degree in 1971 and is the owner of Professional Tax Services, in Bradenton, FL. Previously, he was a partner for 42 years in Professional Management Healthcare Consultants in Raleigh, NC. He served on the board of directors and was the past president of the National Association of Certified Healthcare Business Consultants, in charge of the certification exam and has served as president of three professional associations focused on health care business in the dental, medical, and hospital industries. In addition, Steve served on the board of a publicly traded pharmaceutical company and facilitated its acquisition by a larger Alzheimer’s disease pharma. He is married to Patti Crown Leary ’71 and they live in Lakewood Ranch, FL. They are the parents of two children and have two grandchildren.

 

Randa Zalman ’23

Secretary

Dr. Randa Zalman, Associate Professor and Graduate Marketing and MBA Director at Bellevue University, brings 20 years of industry experience in marketing, branding, and digital media. Known for her expertise in social media and digital placement, she was selected to draft compliance guidelines for the insurance industry. A frequent speaker and active board member in both industry and nonprofit organizations, Randa mentors students through Bellevue’s Pratt Entrepreneurial Program. Her contributions have earned her several prestigious awards, including the American Advertising Federation Ad Pro of the Year and the American Marketing Association Marketer of the Year. Randa holds degrees from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, the University of Nebraska–Omaha, and a doctorate from Saint Leo University.

Fr. Lucius Amarillas, OSB ’18 ’19

Fr. Lucius Amarillas, OSB joined the Benedictine monastery and was ordained to the priesthood following his studies at Saint Leo University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in religion and a master’s degree in theology. Originally from California, he was raised in Las Vegas, NV.

 

John Armentrout ’91

John Armentrout graduated and was commissioned as a U.S. Army Officer from Saint Leo College. He served 28 years in the Army as an enlisted member and officer. John served another eight years as a government civilian in the Air Force and continues to serve as a defense contractor. He has a bachelor’s, two master’s, and a doctoral degree. John and his wife Shelly have three daughters and one granddaughter.

 

Billy Ash ’11

Billy Ash is a digital marketing visionary, the chief digital officer and owner of Today's Business, and the founder of Upper Edge Sport Agency and Undrafted Ventures. After graduating from Saint Leo University with a bachelor’s degree in business management, he started a thriving digital marketing agency from his basement. His agency has delivered exceptional results for renowned brands like Netflix and The Cleveland Cavaliers, as well as spearheading Kylie Jenner's first influencer brand campaign. Billy has been recognized for his accomplishments, which include being named to the NJ Ad Club’s 40 Under 40 list.

 

Bill Baker ’68

William (Bill) Baker, a graduate of Saint Leo College, is a retired U.S. Army Captain and a Purple Heart recipient. Bill has dedicated 40 years of his life to federal service, serving the U.S. Department of the Navy in Army base operations management. Among other things, Bill currently is active in nonprofit organizations, and he is passionate about serving his community.

 

Thomas Coughlin ’04

Thomas (Tom) Coughlin is the current chief of Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) Modernization at U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM). He has more than 40 years of government service as a retired U.S. Army soldier and current government civilian. He has held various positions ranging from senior ISR requirements manager to chief information officer/chief knowledge officer for intelligence to his current position at USSOCOM. He obtained his MBA at Saint Leo University and has achieved many accolades. Tom currently resides in Land O Lakes, FL, and is an active member of his community at Lakeshore Ranch.

 

Antonio Cruz ’18 ’20 ’25

Dr. Antonio Cruz is a proud triple alumnus of Saint Leo University, earning his bachelor’s degree in 2018, MBA in 2020, and Doctor of Business Administration in 2025. He currently serves as a district manager for The TJX Companies, Inc., overseeing 12 TJ Maxx stores across the Miami/Key West, FL, market. With more than 19 years at the company, Antonio is known for his commitment to developing people, building strong teams, and delivering operational excellence. Antonio has been an active alumni leader, serving in various chapter leadership roles for more than five years, including three years as the chair of Saint Leo’s Virtual Alumni Chapter. He was honored with the Saint Leo University Roaring Onward Award in 2019, recognizing his professional achievements and dedication to the university’s core values. As a member of the Alumni Board of Directors, Antonio is passionate about strengthening alumni engagement, supporting student success, and giving back to the Saint Leo community that has shaped his personal and professional journey.

 

Kevin Dunn ’18

Kevin Dunn graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and was a member of the Sigma Beta fraternity. He pursued a career in information technology as a systems engineer and operating systems programmer. Kevin worked for Computer Sciences Corporation and later became director of technical services for a division of Westinghouse Corporation. He retired as chief information officer from Aon Corporation in 2009 and then rejoined the workforce by founding his own project management company, managing data center projects for large managed services firms. Kevin is the father of three children and grandfather of four amazing individuals.

 

Bryan Franz ’13

Bryan Franz is the marketing enablement manager for Daikin Comfort Technologies North America, a part of the world’s largest HVAC manufacturer. Graduating with a degree in sports management, he believes the skills developed at Saint Leo University have given him the ability to lead with passion and understanding. Being part of the HVAC industry for 10 years, his mind is on people and business development – truly encompassing the Daikin philosophy of unlocking people’s infinite potential. In his spare time, he enjoys being with his wife and son, leading worship at Church at Viera, and camping. He looks forward to cultivating a deepened relationship with our alumni and welcoming them back home to Saint Leo University.

 

Dean Grimm ’88

Dean Grimm, a proud member of Sigma Lambda fraternity, earned his bachelor’s degree in business management from Saint Leo College. With more than 30 years of experience in the staffing industry, Dean has primarily supported Biotech/Pharma and IT companies, serving in various leadership roles across recruiting, sales, training, and operations. He currently serves as executive director at The Lotus Group, a privately held staffing firm. Dean prides himself on building meaningful relationships and his passion for adding value and making a positive impact on everyone he works with. Originally from Long Island, NY, he grew up in Palm Harbor, FL, where he still resides today. He is a devoted husband and proud father of two children.

 

Jeffrey Hawes ’18

Jeffrey (Jeff) Hawes earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from Saint Leo University in 2018. Born in Tampa and raised in Pasco County, where his family raised cattle and operated a chicken farming enterprise. Jeff has deep roots in the community. During his time at Saint Leo University, he was initiated as a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. In 2024, Jeff joined Corcoran Partners, a government consulting firm, as a senior government consultant. Prior to joining the firm, Jeff served as a legislative and district aide to two state representatives in the Florida House of Representatives. In his free time, Jeff enjoys spending time with his wife, Lauren, whom he met during his time at Saint Leo University. He is an avid golfer, outdoorsman, and sports fan.

 

Erin Head ’11

Erin Head, MBA, RHIA, CHDA, CCS, CHTS-TR, is an accomplished healthcare information governance consultant with more than 19 years of experience in healthcare leadership. Erin received her bachelor’s degree in health information administration from the University of Cincinnati and her master’s degree in business administration from Saint Leo University. She is married to James Head '14, and they reside in Titusville, FL.

 

Lisa Henderson ’03

Lisa Henderson graduated from Saint Leo University in May 2003, later earning her MBA from Cardinal Stritch University in December 2012. With a 17-year career at Verizon in strategic sales, she developed deep expertise in building customer relationships and delivering innovative technology solutions. Currently, Lisa serves as a business development manager at CHEP, where she focuses on helping supply chain leaders adopt digital solutions that drive efficiency and sustainability. She lives in Tampa, FL, with her husband, daughter, and their energetic puppy. She’s excited to give back to the Saint Leo community and looks forward to connecting and growing our alumni network.

 

Julie Tobey Jenkins ’84

Julie Tobey Jenkins earned her bachelor’s degree in political science from Saint Leo University and has worked in many national and international corporations for the past 30 years. Today she serves as the development director for HEAVENDROPt, an organization that employs veterans and individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities. She also supports the work of small businesses, having been involved in her husband’s marketing firm, Grapple Hook Marketing. Julie also is committed to her community. She is active in her neighborhood and causes that invest in the education and well-being of children.

 

Michael Johnson ’10

Major Michael R. Johnson is a proud alumnus of Saint Leo University, having earned both his Associate of Arts in liberal arts and his Bachelor of Arts in business administration with a minor in management. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2001 and was commissioned as an officer through the Platoon Leaders Course in 2009 after graduating from Saint Leo. His distinguished military career includes deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003 and 2005 and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan in 2013. He has held numerous leadership positions, including Platoon Commander and Company Commander with 2d Radio Battalion and Officer Selection Officer for Recruiting Station Atlanta, where his team won the Marine Corps Lt. Gen. Frank Petersen Grey Eagle Award for FY15. He currently serves with Marine Corps Cyber Command. In his free time, he enjoys flying remote-controlled jets and reading. He volunteers with Marine Corps Toys for Tots, coaches youth soccer for the Jacksonville Area Soccer Association and Montgomery Soccer Institute, and is a member of the Knights of Columbus.

 

David LeBlanc ’14

David J. LeBlanc is a former treasurer of the Saint Leo University Alumni Association Board of Directors, having served in the role for two years. He graduated with a double major in political science and criminal justice, specializing in homeland security, and later earned his Master of Business Administration from Western Governors University in May 2022. A former NYPD police officer, David transitioned into the private sector to pursue a career in business. Currently, he is an Investment Portfolio Coordinator at Total Administrative Services Corporation (TASC), where he supports strategic financial planning and portfolio management, managing a $10M budget, standardizing portfolio processes across multiple business entities, and aligning financial performance with strategic objectives. He resides on Long Island, NY.

 

Florence Liverano ’18 ’21

Florence Liverano graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and a Master of Science in criminal justice. She currently works with the State of Florida as a risk-based underwriter. Florence is thrilled to serve on the Alumni Association Board of Directors as a way to give back to her beloved alma mater.

 

Jeff McCarthy ’71

Jeff McCarthy is a graduate of Saint Leo College and is a longstanding member of Sigma Beta fraternity. He is retired and lives with his wife, Barbara, on the east end of Long Island, NY. He enjoys his kids, his six grandchildren, and playing golf. Jeff also is a winter resident in Osprey, FL.

 

Allison Newlon ’92

Allison Newlon owns a boutique real estate firm that specializes in using modern marketing for home sellers and finding home buyers in the greater Tampa Bay and West Central Florida areas. She loves spending time with her four almost-grown children and her dogs, while she enjoys Florida life!

 

Donna Porter ’78

Donna Porter graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in criminology. After graduating, she kicked off her career working for Busch Gardens, where she dedicated 37 years of service to the park security department. Though retired, Donna continues to play an active role in her community through volunteer activities.

 

Jason Remmel ’04

Jason Remmel graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sports management and marketing and is an award-winning sales executive and regional trainer in the medical tech industry. Jason currently resides in Jacksonville, FL. He is newly married and has two beautiful daughters, ages ten and thirteen, along with a dog and cat, who complete their perfectly blended family. When not working, his interests include coaching his daughter’s soccer team, philanthropy, hunting, concerts/sporting events, restaurant dining, fitness, and traveling the world. Puerto Rico has become the Remmel family’s second home!

 

George Root ’01

George Root is a community association attorney with the Stockham Law Group, who has represented homeowner and condominium associations all over Florida for the past fifteen years. He spent almost five years in the Army before going to law school. While at Saint Leo University, he participated in Sigma Epsilon and the cross-country team. He has two daughters, Lillian (age ten) and Filomena (age seven), and he enjoys watching their thespian pursuits and soccer games. He spends time on the weekends glassblowing in the Art of Valor program. Saint Leo created lifelong friendships and many opportunities for him.

 

Maureen Wickert ’77, ’99

Maureen McGeehan Wickert is a double alumna of Saint Leo University. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education. Wickert is a retired school administrator, residing in Spring Hill, FL, and is proud to be serving on the Alumni Association Board of Directors.
