Scholarships Provide a Home Away from Home

“My Saint Leo is my home away from home.”

Delaney Murphy’s long road to her bachelor’s degree comes to an end as she completes her International Tourism and Hospitality Management program. For Delaney, college was a challenge she always knew she was going to undertake.

“My mother always said, ‘I do not care how much college is, you are going, and we will figure out the money later.’” Delaney applied and was awarded the Ann Cleary Scholarship, which was established in 1983 through a planned gift made by Ann Cleary. For 35 years, this scholarship has fulfilled Ann’s wishes by helping students such as Delaney achieve their dreams and relieve burdens from their families.

When asked what she would do if she had the opportunity to speak with her scholarship donor, Delaney said she’d thank Ann as this generous scholarship made it possible for her to finish her education at Saint Leo University. “This scholarship means opportunity, and education, and a weight lifted off my mother’s shoulders.”

Delaney’s most rewarding college experience was joining a service-driven sorority. “Not only do my sisters provide constant support, but when we all volunteer together, we see the true impact we have made and, most importantly, the impact those people have made on us, and that in itself has been so rewarding.”

Thanks to the support of our generous alumni and the mission of Saint Leo University, students like Delaney are able to achieve their dreams, make a real-world impact, and carry this positive experience with them for life.
