Celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day with Saint Leo!

Make plans now for a weekend getaway to join Saint Leo University in the St. Patrick’s Day parades in New York City or Savannah, GA. All alumni, parents, and students are invited to help celebrate the day by marching in the parade. It’s an exciting way to represent Saint Leo. Afterward, take-in the sights of these two beautiful cities.

Online registration is closed but you are still welcome to join us for either parade.  Please see time and location details below.

New York City

Pre-Parade Breakfast: 10:30 a.m.
Residence Inn Time Square, Bryant Park Room
1033 Avenue of the Americas New York, NY 10018

Formation Time: 12:20 p.m.
West 45th Street, between Fifth and Sixth Avenues. Our place is after the Friends of Ireland, Northwell Health Lennox Hill Hospital and ahead of Grand Council of United Emerald Societies.

Parade route is along 5th Avenue, between 44th Street and 79th Street.

Formation Time: 8 a.m.
The Saint Leo group is entering through Checkpoint D, between Habersham and Huntington Streets.

Parade Start: 10:30 a.m.
Parade route begins near Forsyth Park and winds through historic Savannah.

 New York City Parade Details

Formation time and Location
If you cannot attend the pre-parade breakfast but plan on marching in the parade, please be at the formation location by 12:10 p.m. Saint Leo’s formation time is 12:20 p.m. Attendees will need to meet for the line formation on West 45th Street, between Fifth and Sixth avenues. Our place is after the Friends of Ireland, Northwell Health Lenox Hill Hospital and ahead of Grand Council of United Emerald Societies. Please plan to meet our group at the Residence Inn Times Square (1033 Avenue of the Americas, New York, NY 10018) to walk to the staging area together.

Parade Rules

The dress code for the parade is business casual, and all marchers will be required to abide by the official St. Patrick's Day marching rules:

  • The only banners allowed are ones identifying the unit. Only one identifying banner for each unit. No exceptions!
  • Green hats, sneakers, or other "odd ball" dress is not permitted.
  • No animals or mascots.
  • No eating, drinking, or smoking in the line of march.
  • No displays of any kind will be permitted.
  • Units should make sure they are in proper formation before approaching Fifth Avenue.
  • After units get on Fifth Avenue, no stragglers should be allowed to join the unit. Unit marshals should be on the alert for this at each intersection. Please be vigilant.
  • Shirts with advertising are not an appropriate form of dress.
  • No children's pull or push wagons permitted. Strollers are ok.
  • Please remember, you are on Fifth Avenue for one hour once a year and you should march with pride in your heritage and dress accordingly; business dress code is required.

 Savannah Parade Details

Formation time and Location
Saint Leo’s check-in time for the parade is at 8 a.m., and our group has been assigned to Checkpoint D, between Habersham and Huntington streets. Please arrive no later than 8:10 a.m. to ensure our entire group gets to the Saint Leo float in the assigned staging area. Recommended parking is in the lot at Kroger, located at 311 E Gwinnett St., Savannah, GA 31401.

Parade Rules
All marchers will be required to abide by the official St. Patrick’s Day Parade Rules and Regulations:

  • All entries must provide family-oriented entertainment consistent with this celebration in honor of Saint Patrick and Irish-American heritage.
  • Attire appropriate to the occasion is required of all participants. · No alcohol is allowed in the parade. No cups or glassware are allowed in the parade. Bottled water or canned soft drinks are allowed.
  • No objects may be handed out, distributed, or thrown by any entry or participant, including marchers, floats, and vehicles associated with the entry.
  • No participant may undertake any dangerous or noxious activities in the parade. No cooking is permitted in the parade.
  • The Parade Committee has the right to inspect all units prior to and during the parade.
  • The size of a float shall be limited to 30 feet in length (for the trailer portion), 10 feet in width, and 12 feet in height.
  • The Parade Committee shall have the power to regulate the amount and scope of advertisement. Advertisement is limited to the applicant and only to the extent stated in the application and approved by the Parade Committee. Applicants who hold political office may be accepted to represent the office they now hold, not as the candidate for any office. No campaign buttons, signs, or apparel will be allowed.
  • The Parade Committee reserves the right to exclude from participation, in the parade or in the official program, any entry which it considers to be advocating or promoting a particular purpose, principle, agenda, or message inconsistent with or contrary to those of the parade.
